Flooding in the islands has caused numerous damages to individual households, property and the island as a whole. Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo of Addu City face problems of flooding in the islands even with light rainfall, in addition to this several severe rainfall events have led to septic tank overflow leading to groundwater pollution. Thus, the Ministry of Environment sought consultancy service to mitigate the flooding issues of these Islands through design of a proper drainage system in the islands based on in depth analysis of the existing situation in the islands. LHI carried out the following investigations; • Undertake literature review of existing information available on flood hazard risks of the Islands. • Undertake data collection relevant to the assignment. • Undertake a feasibility study to determine the most appropriate drainage option for the islands.
