Climate Resilience Improvement Project (CRIP) under Ministry of Mahaweli, Agriculture, Irrigation and Rural Development is developing Basin Investment Plans (BIP) for 10 selected river basins, as the Sri Lankan cities are becoming increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of natural disasters with climate change impacts. Flood protection for Anuradhapura city was identified under Malwathu Oya Basin. A comprehensive feasibility study is undertaken to develop the optimum solution for a flood safe Anuradhapura city. Structural and operational modifications to Nachchaduwa spillway alongside with improvements to Malwathu Oya is prefered as the best feasible alternative among many tabled. The work constitutes,
• Site inspection, stakeholder consultation, data collection and workshops
• Hydrographic and topographic Surveys
• Review and analysis of previous studies and development /upgrade flood models
• Development feasibility level designs and model application with proposed interventions
• Economic analysis, and social and environmental assessment
• Recommended feasibility solution
• Feasibility report and workshop
